For the 1 in 4 who bite

Nails you're not hiding.
In six weeks.

Unbitten is the quit-nail-biting app built on habit-reversal training — the approach clinicians actually use. Ten separate streaks, 60-second urge tools, and weekly photo proof that it's working.

Sound familiar?

The habit is small. The tax is not.

🤝

Hiding your hands

Meetings, handshakes, photos, dates. The hiding becomes its own second habit — and everyone who bites knows the fist-curl.

🔁

Quitting for a week

You've stopped before. Then one rough edge, one stressful call — and the "screw it" spiral takes the rest of your progress with it.

🦠

More than cosmetic

Broken skin invites infection, and hands-to-mouth carries everything else. Dentists and dermatologists both have opinions about this habit.

The method

Awareness first. Willpower last.

Willpower fails because most biting is automatic — you're mid-bite before you notice. Unbitten is built on habit-reversal training, restructured for a phone in your pocket and a life in progress.

1

Ten streaks, not one

Every nail is its own run. Bite one during a stressful call? Nine keep going. No global reset, no spiral.

2

60-second urge tools

Two taps to log an urge, then a fist-clench reset or a guided urge-surf. The urge passes faster than you think.

3

The Sunday ritual

Five minutes of filing removes the rough edges that start most bites. Remove the snag, remove the trigger.

4

Weekly photo proof

Aligned photos, week over week. Visible regrowth by week 2–3 — proof beats promises, and it never leaves your phone.

Built different

Designed for how quitting actually goes.

Relapse-tolerant by design

A slip is data, not failure. The app's job on your worst day is to keep nine streaks alive — not to guilt you about the tenth.

Learns your risk windows

Two weeks of urge logs and it knows your pattern — evening TV, afternoon meetings — and pre-arms you before them.

Private by default

No account. No feed. Your photos and logs live on your phone, full stop.

No shame mechanics

No red X calendars, no streak-loss guilt trips, no fake countdown timers. Calm tools that respect you.

Gold rays are done biting. Sage rays are growing. The amber stub restarted yesterday — and the rest never noticed.

Questions

Fair questions, straight answers.

Why would an app work when willpower hasn't?

Because willpower targets the wrong moment. Most nail biting is automatic — by the time you're aware, you're already biting. Habit-reversal training works upstream: build awareness of your specific triggers, interrupt with a competing response, and remove the snags that start bites in the first place. The app just makes that protocol livable: two-tap logging, 60-second tools, and streaks that survive a bad day.

What happens when I slip?

One nail restarts. The other nine keep every day they've earned. This is the core design decision in Unbitten — the all-or-nothing streak is why most quitting attempts (and most apps) fail. A slip gets logged with its trigger, the app learns from it, and your worst day costs you one ray on the dial instead of everything.

How fast will I see results?

Nails grow about 3mm a month, so visible free-edge regrowth typically shows in your week 2–3 photos. That's the point of the weekly photo system — this habit is one of the few where you can literally see the win within a month.

Is my data private? Do I need an account?

No account, no login, no cloud. Photos and logs are stored on your phone only. Sharing a before/after is always something you explicitly choose to do, never automatic.

I bite when I'm stressed / bored / focused — does it handle that?

Yes — that's the check-in. A two-minute assessment identifies whether you're an automatic biter (autopilot, screens, boredom) or a focused biter (rough edges that demand "fixing"), and your plan leads with different tools accordingly. Both patterns are normal; they just need different first moves.
